The data collection for the 2013 wave of the Oxford Internet Survey (OxIS) has been completed. OxIS is a comprehensive survey of British Internet use. It has been conducted every two years since 2003, so this is the sixth survey. It provides a comprehensive assessment of how Britons have used the Internet over the past decade and how their use has changed. Preliminary analyses of the 2013 data show that the proportion of British population using the Internet has increased by about 5 percentage points to 78%.

A record number of schools have registered for Make IT Happy, Make IT Safe 2013, the award winning competition run by e-skills UK on behalf of PICTFOR, the Parliamentary ICT Forum. The competition is generously sponsored by the Nominet Trust and the IET.
Over 600 schools registered and downloaded materials to deliver lessons on e-safety to pupils aged 9 - 11. The competition encourages them to create and submit info-graphics that pass on their learning to others - competition entries are coming in from all around the UK.

Thanks to the Environment Agency and Ordnance Survey (plus Geeks of London) for organising the env[:hack] event at Bristol Uni. Lots of environment apps were generated in a short space of time using Open Data. People seem really fired up by environment data.

Room for Tea is a sociable housing idea. We are a new kind of home-sharing network which connects guests in need of short-term, affordable housing, with hosts who have a spare room in their homes.
Room for Tea is currently taking part in the Digital Edge challenge, run by Nominet Trust. The programme has greatly facilitated the development of our online platform and contributed to Room for Tea’s expansion.

I've just joined the staff team at Age UK North Craven and was really excited to go find out about the DITS project. I wanted to see how the tables are turned as young volunteers learn how to share their digital enthusiasm and knowhow with older people.

There are 7.4 million people in the UK who have never used the internet of which 5.2million are aged over 65. There are over 18,000 care homes in England with nearly 40,000 older residents. We do not currently have an accurate figure about how many care home residents have access to the internet.

On 28 March 2013 local learners gathered for a 'Celebration of Learning and Perseverance'. The event was organised by a group started in October 2012 as a result of a partnership between Get IT Together and Helmsdale and District Community Association, with ten learners in total have completed thirty weeks of training in use of the Internet and in basic computing skills. The Community Association also sourced a number of recycled laptops through the ReBoot scheme in Forres- which will remain in the community centre for community use: a real asset.

GRCC has been successfully running the Connect project since April 2011 with funding from the Nominet Trust. The aim of the project is to help anyone over the age of 55 and living in Gloucestershire to use a computer and get ‘online.’ Connect aims to help people, especially those living in the more rural areas of the county at whatever their level of ability and experience, to become more confident in using a computer and the internet.
