We believe that young people should be creators of technology rather than just consumers. If young people are to successfully participate in a ‘digital-by-default’ society we need to equip them with the digital skills and confidence they need to succeed.
The Basic Digital Skills UK 2017 report suggests that at least 3% (300,000) of 15-24 year olds lack basic digital skills. Our own research shows that it is these young people are also the most likely to be facing multiple forms of disadvantage.
In July 2017, Nominet Trust launched Digital Reach to engage the UK’s most digitally disadvantaged young people by harnessing the expertise of the UK’s leading youth organisations, which have longstanding and trusted relationships with the hardest-to-reach young people.
Developing six pilots with 12 organisations over nine months, Digital Reach will demonstrate how these experts are perfectly placed to steer isolated young people towards positive futures.
