Supporting innovative community internet venues with UK Online Centres
Last summer we teamed up with UK Online Centres – the organisation behind the 3,800 strong network of centres offering access to computers and the internet and support to use them - to provide new grant funding for local organisations working in the heart of communities to get more people online.
The 'Community Outreach Fund' supported more than 150 innovative outreach projects, helping local community organisations to help people get online in places in the community that they feel comfortable – giving people the opportunity to have a beer while learning about browsers, or do their washing while learning to send an email.
During this project we also explored a new approach to capturing the social impact of work taking place. Our Development Research Manager, Kieron has summarised the evaluation approach in his latest blog.
Making a difference
We have filmed a few of the projects so you can find out about some of the communities that have benefited from this programme.

We have also set up an overall programme blog site where each project has recorded their progress.
