The 'Connect' projects helps older carers

GRCC has been successfully running the Connect project since April 2011 with funding from the Nominet Trust. The aim of the project is to help anyone over the age of 55 and living in Gloucestershire to use a computer and get ‘online.’ Connect aims to help people, especially those living in the more rural areas of the county at whatever their level of ability and experience, to become more confident in using a computer and the internet.

New features on the SharedWalk communication service

Good progress has been made in extending the functionality and reach of "sharedwalk" - an internet service to help support individuals keep in touch through visual communication. Of particular concerrn are the elderly alone. Their family, friends, relatives (or volunteers) can share experience through a simple visual uploading service from a smartphone app.

Our 'Killer App'

We're almost halfway through the development of our Portfolio project. It's an exciting project to work on, designed on a very simple premise to encourage young people to 'show and tell' their volunteering and have their work endorsed by the charities they help, presented via a public profile that they can easily share with proespective employers and recruiters. The idea is to help volunteers to showcase the amazing experiences they gain through volunteering and have them validated so they can be used to help with career development.

The easification of not-for-profit websites

Our mission proposed to the Nominet Trust was simple: we want to enable anyone to create their own website without need of a safety net, instruction bible, or ‘internet guru’ (shudder). We are going to create a simple-to-use, affordable platform for charities and not-for-profits to create their own websites to amplify the good they deliver.This platform, came to be named Jam.Jam exists in two parts, the technology platform (the building part) and the content strategy (or what on earth do we put on our website part).

Tech for Good – scaling social innovations

The Connect project has been running at GRCC in Gloucestershire since April 2011. The aim of the project is to get people 55 years or older online. So far we have helped over 350 people with a team of volunteers who have visited people at thier homes or in community buildings during group sessions. more >
