I believe social media and Twitter have transformed communication in the same way television has transformed entertainment. The efficiency and speed at which we can exchange ideas and share content compared to ten years ago is extraordinary.

2013 Oxford Internet Survey progress

The data collection for the 2013 wave of the Oxford Internet Survey (OxIS) has been completed. OxIS is a comprehensive survey of British Internet use. It has been conducted every two years since 2003, so this is the sixth survey. It provides a comprehensive assessment of how Britons have used the Internet over the past decade and how their use has changed. Preliminary analyses of the 2013 data show that the proportion of British population using the Internet has increased by about 5 percentage points to 78%. more >

Award for Achievement and Perseverance - A Case Study (NWS)

On 28 March 2013 local learners gathered for a 'Celebration of Learning and Perseverance'. The event was organised by a group started in October 2012 as a result of a partnership between Get IT Together and Helmsdale and District Community Association, with ten learners in total have completed thirty weeks of training in use of the Internet and in basic computing skills. The Community Association also sourced a number of recycled laptops through the ReBoot scheme in Forres- which will remain in the community centre for community use: a real asset.

The 'Connect' projects helps older carers

GRCC has been successfully running the Connect project since April 2011 with funding from the Nominet Trust. The aim of the project is to help anyone over the age of 55 and living in Gloucestershire to use a computer and get ‘online.’ Connect aims to help people, especially those living in the more rural areas of the county at whatever their level of ability and experience, to become more confident in using a computer and the internet.

In today's special Valentine's themed guided reminiscence session, John requested ‘The Last Waltz’ and everybody sang with him with such enthusiasm. Afterwards I asked why he’d chosen that song and he told me that it was the first dance he’d had with his wife when he first met her at a tea dance at the Bournemouth Pavilion in 1943. They were married in 1946. more >

Citizens Online run digital inclusion projects – Get IT Together across the UK. We help individuals, particularly older and disabled people get started with the Internet and we have some robust measures in place to understand the journey learners go on in becoming regular Internet users.
