The 'Connect' projects helps older carers

GRCC has been successfully running the Connect project since April 2011 with funding from the Nominet Trust. The aim of the project is to help anyone over the age of 55 and living in Gloucestershire to use a computer and get ‘online.’ Connect aims to help people, especially those living in the more rural areas of the county at whatever their level of ability and experience, to become more confident in using a computer and the internet.

Citizens Online run digital inclusion projects – Get IT Together across the UK. We help individuals, particularly older and disabled people get started with the Internet and we have some robust measures in place to understand the journey learners go on in becoming regular Internet users.

We have been busy out and about filming for our e-connect project. The concept is simple, business people and other experts share their experience in short 'How to Videos' so young people interested in starting a business can access this knowledge bank. We have based the idea loosley on the TED lectures.

Water Safety Map to reveal patterns in Danger Spots

As part of our role as educators, it became increasingly frustrating to hear news of the same type of water related accidents happening around the UK. We felt strongly that if better information was available it would be possible to better educate young people on common pitfalls. The Oxford Internet Survey has begun data collection. The survey, which is the most comprehensive survey of British Internet use, began collection of the data for the 2013 wave on 1 February. About 2,600 respondents will be asked some 330 questions concerning the different things they do on the Internet, the devices they use, their attitudes toward the Internet and technology, and many other items. There are items about social isolation, disabiled access, education, employment, local communities, and other issues of interest to the Nominet Trust. more >
