The 'Connect' projects helps older carers

GRCC has been successfully running the Connect project since April 2011 with funding from the Nominet Trust. The aim of the project is to help anyone over the age of 55 and living in Gloucestershire to use a computer and get ‘online.’ Connect aims to help people, especially those living in the more rural areas of the county at whatever their level of ability and experience, to become more confident in using a computer and the internet.

The Oxford Internet Survey has begun data collection. The survey, which is the most comprehensive survey of British Internet use, began collection of the data for the 2013 wave on 1 February. About 2,600 respondents will be asked some 330 questions concerning the different things they do on the Internet, the devices they use, their attitudes toward the Internet and technology, and many other items. There are items about social isolation, disabiled access, education, employment, local communities, and other issues of interest to the Nominet Trust. more >

Scottish Disability Equality Forum joins Go ON Gold

An influential Scottish organisation which promotes independent living has become the latest group to join Go ON Gold.

The Scottish Disability Equality Forum (SDEF) aims to remove barriers to equality and is also the umbrella body for 50 volunteer led Access Panels across the country.

“We work with many organisations to influence Scottish Government policies which affect how we live”, says SDEF manager Susan Grasekamp. “We also work with Access Panels across Scotland who provide advice and support to disabled people in their local communities.

The Connect project has been running at GRCC in Gloucestershire since April 2011. The aim of the project is to get people 55 years or older online. So far we have helped over 350 people with a team of volunteers who have visited people at thier homes or in community buildings during group sessions. more >

Local hero benefits from campaign on internet access for all

News of a 'local hero' from one of the partners in our accessibility awareness campaign, Go ON Gold.Amy Crouch of Westminster City Council Library Service wrote in to tell us about Bob Rawlinson, who has lived in St John's Wood for over 50 years. He visits the library regularly but until this month had never explored the lower ground floor which was originally a store room but was refurbished and opened to the public in August 2008. more >
