More than 600 schools register for Make IT Happy 2013

A record number of schools have registered for Make IT Happy, Make IT Safe 2013, the award winning competition run by e-skills UK on behalf of PICTFOR, the Parliamentary ICT Forum. The competition is generously sponsored by the Nominet Trust and the IET.

Over 600 schools registered and downloaded materials to deliver lessons on e-safety to pupils aged 9 - 11. The competition encourages them to create and submit info-graphics that pass on their learning to others - competition entries are coming in from all around the UK.

Water Safety Map to reveal patterns in Danger Spots

As part of our role as educators, it became increasingly frustrating to hear news of the same type of water related accidents happening around the UK. We felt strongly that if better information was available it would be possible to better educate young people on common pitfalls. The Certificate in Safe Social Networking

Over 30% of children under the age of 13 say they have a facebook profile. We know from talking to teachers and children this number is much higher. Schools are increasingly having to deal with issues which begin online, within social networking sites. The traditional approach of locking down access to the internet no longer works as children increasingly access the internet via mobile devices and in unmoderated enviroments.

A digital celebration for Digitally Sorted

The Digitally Sorted project equips young people aged 12-15 with the skills they need to survive in, and make a positive contribution to, an increasingly digital world. Students at Penrice Academy and Bodmin College have taken part in a series of workshops and training activities exploiting the use of innovative technologies relevant to young people’s needs.
