Our Digital Planet - win £500 worth of photography equipment

The internet is amazing. It has the potential to make a positive difference to our own lives, the lives of those around us and the world we live in too. 

Whether it’s helping to improve health, education or employment prospects, reducing feelings of social isolation, helping us to campaign for good causes or championing democracy across whole nations, the internet has opened up a wealth of opportunities for  individuals, communities and organisations the world over.

But what does the internet mean to you? What difference has it made to your life?

Well, that is the focus in our latest project - Our Digital Planet.

You could win over £500 of photography equipment and the opportunity to spend a day with a professional photographer!

Has it saved you money, helped you to discover new interests or re-connect with old friends? Maybe you’ve set up your own online business or developed new skills. Perhaps it’s given you an active voice on an issue that you’re passionate about or introduced you to a new community that offers friendship, support and advice.

Nominet Trust is working with Blipfoto and Street Gallery pioneers, WeCommunic8 to demonstrate to the 8.4 million people in the UK who have yet to experience the internet the huge difference it can make to our lives. So we’d love you to share your digital photos and tell us the impact the internet has had on your life!

As well as the chance to win a great new camera, a selection of the best photos will also take centre stage in the Our Digital Planet outdoor exhibition that we’ll be taking on tour around the UK later this year.

The stories and experiences conveyed through your photos might just provide them with all the motivation and inspiration they need to get online.

You are also encouraged to vote to help decide the winner and which pictures will be included in an exhibition that will tour 6 UK city centres. A final list, decided by this voting, will then be debated by our judges.

Whether it’s helping to improve health, education or employment prospects, reducing feelings of social isolation, helping us to campaign for good causes or championing democracy across whole nations, the internet has opened up a wealth of opportunities for  individuals, communities and organisations the world over.

The Our Digital Planet Street Gallery will be touring cities across the UK starting in Brighton on 16th August 2012. We will share more details about the exhibition in the coming weeks but you can keep up tp date with the competition, and exhibition dates and venues at the Our Digital Planet site.
