On Road Media & SHP go mobile

At On Road Media we've been working with the Single Homeless Project supporting their service users, who have experience of homelessness and/or addiction, with the development of their brilliant blog Unheard Holler. Our centre has been celebrating "Get Online Week" by hosting a series of training days across London. We've been training SHP service users to shoot videos and write blog posts in response to the August riots in England. The workshops focus on the London Riots because it's something many have strong feelings about and it provides a platform for interesting dialogue about the motivation behind the riots as well as society's response to them. It's fascinating to support them with capturing this material. They've been out on the streets of London talking to people and you can see some passionate responses in the videos here.
It's been of real importance for SHP's service users to get online and use their blog for writing, commenting, posting videos or photos and basically sharing ideas and thoughts. Setting up an online blog allows for stories to be told and heard which may never have been expressed otherwise. As one Unheard Holler blogger wrote;
"The Unheard - not any more! We all have so much to offer our fellow man/woman and this new method of communication will enable so many people to share their experiences whether good or bad. A place to share, a place to learn but most of all - a place to be heard! What can be more important than having a VOICE?..."
With the support from UK Online Centre's Community Outreach Grant and backing from the Nominet Trust, we've been able to deliver key social media and citizen journalism training getting people online in diverse and interesting ways. On Road Media have been using their new mobile training centre to get people online. Using several laptops, cameras and training materials we can deliver training to people in many different locations from cafés, to buses to shelters.
