Room for Tea, a new kind of housesharing network

Room for Tea is a sociable housing idea. We are a new kind of home-sharing network which connects guests in need of short-term, affordable housing, with hosts who have a spare room in their homes.

Room for Tea is currently taking part in the Digital Edge challenge, run by Nominet Trust. The programme has greatly facilitated the development of our online platform and contributed to Room for Tea’s expansion.

My first session at DITS

I've just joined the staff team at Age UK North Craven and was really excited to go find out about the DITS project. I wanted to see how the tables are turned as young volunteers learn how to share their digital enthusiasm and knowhow with older people.

Award for Achievement and Perseverance - A Case Study (NWS)

On 28 March 2013 local learners gathered for a 'Celebration of Learning and Perseverance'. The event was organised by a group started in October 2012 as a result of a partnership between Get IT Together and Helmsdale and District Community Association, with ten learners in total have completed thirty weeks of training in use of the Internet and in basic computing skills. The Community Association also sourced a number of recycled laptops through the ReBoot scheme in Forres- which will remain in the community centre for community use: a real asset.

The 'Connect' projects helps older carers

GRCC has been successfully running the Connect project since April 2011 with funding from the Nominet Trust. The aim of the project is to help anyone over the age of 55 and living in Gloucestershire to use a computer and get ‘online.’ Connect aims to help people, especially those living in the more rural areas of the county at whatever their level of ability and experience, to become more confident in using a computer and the internet.

Go ON Gold nears 50 Partners

The Go ON Gold campaign - raising awareness about the barriers faced by people with disabilities in accessing digital technologies, and helping to overcome those barriers - is nearing an important milestone.

Soon we will have signed up our 50th partner organisation, and we will be putting out a media announcement when this happens and hopefully getting some useful publicity as we head into the final few months of our project, which is funded by Nominet Trust.

Songs and dances of love

In today's special Valentine's themed guided reminiscence session, John requested ‘The Last Waltz’ and everybody sang with him with such enthusiasm. Afterwards I asked why he’d chosen that song and he told me that it was the first dance he’d had with his wife when he first met her at a tea dance at the Bournemouth Pavilion in 1943. They were married in 1946. more >
