Caring for those that care
Alzheimer’s Society is to build, test and evaluate the first online clinical trial to determine the effectiveness of online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) in improving the quality of life of carers of people with dementia.
Funding from Nominet Trust will enable the Alzheimer's Society to run an online Randomised Clinical Trial (RCT) to understand if an internet-based brain training package can successfully improve or sustain mental capacity.
Caring is an extremely demanding role and as dementia progresses many carers find it increasingly difficult to leave their own home to access support – it is hoped that this project will offer an alternative solution.
This is the first time a clinical trial has taken place online and will help to demonstrate the power of the internet to support a powerful, new research methodology.
